Why is it that Africa is only known for poverty, war and hunger while it is generally not known for its affluence, beauty and development? Why is it not generally known that in 14 out of the EU's 28 member states, 1 in 3 children are considered to be living in poverty? If you look around you, you will see that every coin has 2 sides. Africa is not all bad. Europe is not all good. In fact both are more similar than you might think. Spend 10 minutes researching your search engines. You might gift yourself a pleasant surprise! https://facebook.com/webtvafrica https://pinterest.com/africawebtv https://twitter.com/africawebtv https://instagram.com/africawebtv http://africawebtv.nl © Africa Web TV 2016

Subscribe to our channel http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Do you speak African? Well, neither do the 1 billion people on the continent. Africa is home to 54 different nations, more than 2,000 languages and four of the world's 10 fastest growing economies, but is often painted with a sweeping stroke of doom and gloom. In this week's Reality Check, Mehdi Hasan exposes popular misconceptions about the African continent. At Al Jazeera English, we focus on people and events that affect people's lives. We bring topics to light that often go under-reported, listening to all sides of the story and giving a 'voice to the voiceless.' All of us have seen a world map at some point in our lives before, but it is very difficult to imagine how certain countries and parts of the world compare to each other in size that are far apart. In this video, I explore why the world looks very different than how it is portrayed in the Mercator Projection map. I then go on to explore how certain countries are unexpectedly larger or smaller than what they appear to be, and how some places looks wildly different than our perceptions. PS; Don't totally hate on the Mercator Projection, it's actually a really useful map for navigation and on keeping the correct shape of countries while sacrificing the size that we can all laugh about! This video is about my Gap Year in South Africa where I Volunteered with Monkeys in Tzaneen, I also visited Cape Town and many other Animal Sanctuary's in the Limpopo Province. Volunteering Abroad and working with Monkeys I had an Amazing Gap year and Travel Experience but it was also bitter sweet. I discovered the same recurring problem at each animal sanctuary and Volunteer Project that I visited, the fact that these animals no longer have a natural habitat to live in despite the best efforts of passionate animal conservationists. If our societies attitude towards the issues causing this don't change, I see no space for wildlife in the near future. Also I want the video to serve a reminder to everyone to worry less about material possessions, live in the moment more, and don't let ...
